RICK’S PRIORITIES
Rick Heidner is running to build a New Illinois — one that’s safe, affordable, and full of opportunity. Here’s where he stands.
What is Ricks’s position on the 2nd Amendment?
Our constitutional rights are the foundation of our freedom. As Governor, I will be a steadfast champion for the Second Amendment, and my administration will ensure that every law-abiding citizen can exercise the right to keep and bear arms without unnecessary government overreach. Public safety is achieved when we hold criminals accountable, rather than infringing on the rights of sportsmen and families seeking to protect their homes. I will veto any legislation that targets responsible firearm ownership or undermines our Second Amendment rights.
Is Rick pro-life?
The right to life is the most fundamental of all human rights. I believe that every life is a gift, and our state’s laws should reflect a respect for the dignity of the unborn. Sadly, Illinois currently has such a radical policy to abortion access that we have recently witnessed our state become a destination for abortion. As Governor, I will help restore a culture of life to our state. I will work to protect the conscience rights of healthcare providers and ensure that taxpayer dollars are used to protect and promote life, not to end it.
How will address the pension crisis?
It’s no secret that Illinois is currently on an unsustainable financial path, with one of the nation’s heaviest pension debts. We can no longer afford to ignore this financial crisis. As Governor, I will implement serious, commonsense reforms for the future, including modernizing retirement options for new hires and ending the budget gimmicks that have contributed to this budget hole. However, fiscal responsibility does not mean turning our backs on the men and women who have already dedicated their careers to our schools and public safety. I believe that a promise made must be a promise kept. As Governor, I will pursue the structural changes necessary to stabilize our economy, while also ensuring that the benefits our state’s current workers and retirees have already earned are protected, honoring their years of service with the dignity and security they were guaranteed.
